Teaching Philosophy

My teaching style fosters an inclusive and engaging learning environment that values each student's unique background and needs. I believe that every student should feel supported and represented, which is why I strive to create an open atmosphere where all voices are heard. I adapt my methods to accommodate different learning styles, ensuring everyone has an equitable opportunity to participate.

Individualized learning and mentorship are at the heart of my teaching philosophy. I provide tailored feedback, personalized study plans, and one-on-one sessions to help each student on their unique learning journey. For instance, I recently worked with a student struggling with project management concepts by creating a customized study plan that focused on their specific challenges. Beyond academics, I aim to be a mentor, offering guidance on career development and practical skills needed in the workplace. It is incredibly rewarding to watch students succeed, especially in my Natural Language Processing (NLP) course, where students develop machine learning chatbots. Seeing someone who initially wasn't familiar with the concept now excel in it brings immense joy.

Collaboration is another key part of my teaching approach. I incorporate group activities, real-world case studies, and guest speakers to encourage students to think critically and apply their knowledge practically. In a recent IT Project Management course, I brought in industry professionals to speak with the class, which helped students connect theory to real-world experiences. Working at Google, where I collaborated with multiple teams to develop products, has taught me to always consider how others feel. This experience has helped me understand the importance of empathy in teaching and creating a supportive learning environment.

I believe I can make a significant impact on a Computer Science department by bringing my industry experience into the classroom. Having worked on high-level projects at Google, I can provide students with insights into the current trends and demands of the tech industry, thereby helping to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical application. My focus on individualized mentorship will also contribute to the department by supporting student success both academically and professionally. I aim to collaborate with colleagues to enhance the curriculum, incorporating more hands-on projects and partnerships with industry professionals to create more opportunities for students to gain real-world experience.

By combining inclusiveness, individualized mentorship, collaboration, and empathy, I strive to create an empowering learning experience for every student.
